In-Character
Character Name: Inuzuka Tsume (And her dog, Chishioko Sendoarashi. Well, that's what she WANTED to name it. But her mother said its name was Kuromaru.)
Age: 28
Birthday: August 8th
Rank outside ANBU: Special Jounin
Affiliated with which ANBU branch: Hunter
Registration Number: 007350
Physical Appearance
Height: 163 cm/5'4 feet
Weight: 51.5 kg/113 pounds
Blood Type: B
Hair: Brown. Brown like a brown sort of browny thing. She keeps it short because letting it grow means she might have to DO something with it. Short like this, it has a style all it's own--or so her mother told her (sounding rather exasperated), when she was a teenager. She doesn't really care, except that it's out of her way. Tsume has much more important things to worry about than style. Once in a while she tackles it with a brush, but for the most part it spikes away from her face, and that makes her happy.
Eyes: Tsume has very Inuzuka eyes; the pupils are slit, and the irises so pale a blue that, at first glance, they look white. In fact, they look white at second and third glance as well. If you stand and stare, you might see the color. It's a bit unnerving, and adds to the Inuzuka not-quite-human trait that Tsume happily embraces.
Skin: Tsume tans easily. Her skin is far from flawless; not only does she have the typical ninja scars, but she also has scars from dog fights--yes, occasionally her own--and stretch marks.
Hey, you have a kid and not have stretch marks.
As ninja go... well. She's really damn scarred. See, every time she's in dog form and gets injured, before she can change back the bones MUST heal, and any major internal injuries should heal, or they might get worse in the shifting. So chakra diverts to the big problems, to get them not just somewhat manageable, but HEALED. Any minor injuries? Skin tearing? That goes by the wayside. In fact, depending on where the injury is compared to what skin has to shift, sometimes shifting makes it much, much worse.
The upshot: Tsume is really, really scarred.
Facial Features: Tsume has big eyes, a pug nose, thin lips that stretch really, really wide for a smile that can be both greatly welcoming... or a baring of teeth. Her canines are very sharp--sharp enough to pierce skin without applying too much pressure--and she has a blood red triangle tattoo on each cheek, broad under her eyes and tapering to points near her jaw. Her eyebrows are thin, and her expression is always changing.
Other Physical Traits: Two arms. Two legs. No partridge in her pear tree.
Handedness: Tsume has an old wrist injury that taught her how to be left-handed. But, naturally? Right.
Voice: Female, with a tendency to let a growl slip when she's annoyed.
Identifying Marks: The tribal tattoos are pretty damned identifying.
Usual Clothing: Tsume can often be found in men's cargo pants and a long-sleeved T-shirt. She likes comfort, likes being able to move, and loves anything that can keep up with her. Most clothes can't. Style is a bit lost on her.
ANBU Mask: A cat. She was not amused. It has red swirls and tiny blue dots around the edges, along with a smattering of dots where whiskers would be--which hide tiny holes for scenting.
Living Situation: Tsume lives in a house with several of her family members: her son and daughter, Kiba's father, her sister and sister's husband, and their child. Her mother lives there as well, but the elderly woman is mostly mentally gone. (The number of people is by choice, not necessity. Family is important to the Inuzuka, and moreso when a parent could be killed in battle--those who are left must raise their children.) However, since re-joining ANBU Tsume has rented an apartment at ANBU HQ. While she can often be found at home, if she has reason to believe she might disturb her family (coming in late or blood-covered, for instance) she stays at the HQ. She also stays there to decompress after rough missions, so her family isn't underfoot. And she stays there because sometimes, her family gets too good at noticing things they shouldn't.
Ninja Skills
Fighting Style: Taijutsu. Tsume prefers fighting up close, hand to hand. Her body is a weapon. Yeah, yeah, yeah--all ninja's bodies are weapons. But how many other ninja can twist into a part-dog shape and swipe with claws, huh? She tends to carry as few actual weapons as possible--there is nothing quite as discomfiting as making a partial shift only to get poked in the side with a blade that no longer fits in that pocket. She actively avoids poisons and any sort of drugs; how something reacts on a human isn't always an indicator of how it'll act on a dog, or a wolf, or a human-wolf-dog-thing. Substances can be tricky.
As a consequence of all of the above, Tsume has a very up-close-and-personal fighting style. She also has a tendency to look a bit out of control; whether this is natural or done to freak people out is anyone's guess, and probably a combination of the two.
Naturally, Tsume can do the quiet and sneaky thing; in fact, she's very good at skulking, as only someone raised with a pack of hybrid-wolf-dog-human things can be. She doesn't blend so well with a crowd; undercover work is NOT her strong suit.
Tsume sucks at Genjutsu. Let's not beat around the bush here--she's terrible at it. There's a rumor that once, long long ago, dog blood somehow blended with the Inuzuka lines and the clan was created. It is, of course, untrue.
...
Of course.
Anyway, among the Inuzuka it's known that people with more, shall we say, Inuzuka-like traits also tend to be more feral. A tad more wild. Y'know. Dog-like. Inuzuka traits are things like slit pupils and pale, pale, PALE irises. A tendency to be wild, quick to emotion, loyal to a fault, and just a bit dog-like in their behaviors and mannerisms. Tsume is very Inuzuka.
What most Inuzuka don't mention is that one of those traits is being terrible at genjutsu. You see, what a dog can see and feel and smell... they believe. Most Inuzuka practically can't cast one, can barely spot it, and their best bet is to try and dispel it--don't bother fighting any other way. Inuzuka have been known to fall for their own genjutsu. And when I say 'Inuzuka' I do, of course, mean Tsume.
She doesn't like to talk about it.
Shut up.
She's better at ninjutsu. In fact, she's downright good at ninjutsu. You have to be good to transform from a human to a dog. She also seems to have an inexhaustible supply of chakra to call on. Note the word 'seems.' Another Inuzuka trait? Ever wonder how their DOGS are able to become human? It's called a chakra link; it forges as they bond, during puberty when things are growing and changing anyway. If a Hyuuga were to bother looking (and they probably have) they'd see that the pathways have re-routed slightly; they now extend from dog to person and back, as if the two share one big chakra network. It would look that way because, basically, they do. When one needs chakra, they pull from the other. It's a strange sort of loop, and only severs when one of them dies.
The Inuzuka like to keep all this hush-hush. Heck, half of them aren't even aware of it.
Anyway, all this extra chakra means that Tsume is fairly good at ninjutsu, though she focuses mainly on her clan traits. Play to your strengths and all that--and she likes being oh so slightly inhuman.
Tsume is a master of her clan's various jutsu.
Preferred Weapons: Claws, teeth.
Special Jutsu: Lots. Starting with ninjutsu...
Shikyaku no Jutsu, which is basically a partial shift and gives her claws, teeth, a more canine look, extra speed and agility. (D rank)
Bakuretsu Koinu, used by the dogs, duplicates a wounded version of itself. When the enemy gets close, it explodes with shrapnel. (no rank)
Inuzuka Ryuu Chinjuu Konbi Henge: Also called Soutou Rou. This unique Konbi Henge is used by the clan member and their familiar, transforming them into a large mystical double headed-wolf. In this form the clan members can utilize the Garouga taijutsu technique. (B rank)
Juujin Bunshin Acting in conjunction with the clan member, the canine familiar will transform themself into a copy of the clan member. While in this form they can accomplish many of the same techniques as the original. (D rank) (edit: human must initiate.)
Other canon jutsu without names that I could find:
Doggie enlarging jutsu! During this jutsu the canine familiar can grow larger and sometimes change colors. (Seen during the chuunin exams.)
Non-cannon jutsu:
The human familiar can also change into a wolf, much like the wolf can change into a human. This requires a solider pill in addition to their own chakra.
The Inuzuka have a demon summons. Not a powerful demon, like the Tailed demons, but a black wolf demon, the size of a horse. It's a forbidden jutsu for anyone accept an alpha, and even then it's highly discouraged. More often than not, if the summoner isn't strong enough, the wolf will turn on them. It does NOT like being summoned. They have no summoning scroll for Him, but rather write the kanji in blood. Once summoned, it will hunt whatever they mark with their own blood. Sometimes it will protect Pack, but that's pretty uncertain, too.
Taijutsu:
Dainamikku Maakingu: When their canine partners release a stream of urine on their target, the clan member can use their excellent sense of smell to locate their target no matter where they are. The urine itself is more dangerous than normal urine, because of its burning and strong sticky qualities.
This technique is mainly used as a set up for the Soutou rou and Garouga techniques combined. When the clan member and canine familiar are spinning at such high speeds they are unable to see where they are going, but by using their nose they are able to locate their target with little trouble.
Garouga is one of the ultimate Taijutsu techniques of the Inuzuka Clan. The technique is a super-spin and it uses up a massive amount of chakra, rendering the ninja and his dog almost helpless should the technique fail.
The clan member familiar will first mark their target with the Dainamikku Maakingu technique. Then by using Inuzuka Ryuu Chinjuu Konbi Henge, the clan member and his partner will transform into the Soutou Rou, "Two-Headed Wolf." This huge beast has several advantages, the saliva it emits will make it difficult for their opponent to find footing in the surrounding area. The large size of the beast also causes large amounts of penetrating damage when it begins its spin. Unfortunately they spin so fast they are unable to keep track of their vision. So they must entirely rely on their nose and the urine marking. If Garouga connects with the target, the opponent is ripped to pieces. Also even if they do not connect directly, the surrounding shockwaves will slice into the enemy.
Gatsuuga is a supreme Taijutsu technique of the Juujin Bunshin style of combat. After the familiar transforms into a copy of the clan member, both the familiar and ninja will begin a spinning attack. The preferred time to attack is when their opponent is showing an opening. Using this chance the fast rotating of the two attackers will cause a damaging impact on their opponent when they connect with their claws. While using this technique, both attackers are able to rotate and strike from multiple angles.
Tsuuga is a variation of Gatsuuga, a Taijutsu technique of the Juujin Bunshin style of combat. This version will just involve one individual clan member utilizing the spinning attack. The fast rotation will cause a damaging impact on their opponent or an nearby object when they connect with their claws. While using this technique, the ninja can rotate and strike from multiple angles.
Service Record: (include ages this character graduated and was promoted, other relevant details of their ninja career to date)
Tsume graduated from the academy at fourteen, held back several years due to her complete and total inability to concentrate. Because she had such problems with Genjutsu, she didn't make Chuunin until she was sixteen (though she started taking the exam less than a week after she'd graduated. She thought her Genin team were all morons, you see.)
Once she became Chuunin she started getting tougher assignments... and she got much, much better. All she really needed was a challenge. She shot up into the Jounin ranks by the time she was seventeen, and then--
Uh. Oops. Kinda got knocked up. Hana was born when Tsume was eighteen, and it quickly became apparent that Tsume wasn't exactly cut out to be a mother. Luckily, her sister enjoyed being a parent. So Tsume went back to missions six months after Hana was born, just a few months shy of Tsume's 19th birthday.
At almost twenty-one Tsume joined ANBU for the first time.
When she was twenty-two, her mother (also a ninja) had just come back from a bad, BAD mission, where her familiar had been killed. Tsume's mother had a mental break, and Tsume quit ANBU to stay home and help. During this time, she had another child: Kiba. She also mellowed a lot.
Well. For her.
Tsume spent the next five years raising her child, bullying her clan back into being a proper clan, and generally growing up and becoming a real alpha. But now, as Tsume hits 28, Kiba has started at the Academy, other clan members have stepped up to take over the running of the clan, and Tsume is getting bored of normal Special Jounin missions. But being in ANBU had been great before...
Personality
General Personality Traits: Tsume is VERY outgoing, a little reckless when not on a mission, horribly loyal, fiercely protective of friends, relatives, animal familiars, dogs in general, clan members, village members, acquaintances...
Everything she does is big. She can be wretchedly stubborn--it's really kind of a problem--and can bulldoze people who don't stand their own ground. She highly respects people who do stand up to her, though.
She's quick to temper, but quick to humor, too. Tsume doesn't hold a grudge. She LOVES life, and has a strong mother trait... that shows itself in very odd ways, since she's really not the mothering type.
Despite her love and loyalty to everyone, Tsume carefully holds people at arms' length, trying hard to seem like she's not. She never meets a stranger... but she's pared her friends away, one by one.
Quirks: Tsume gets bored easily. Oh, she's fine on a mission, but put her anywhere else... She can be terrible with the fidgeting, and usually doesn't realize she's doing it.
She also is touchy about her right wrist--babies it maybe a little more than she needs to, and doesn't like people to touch.
Tsume is a little over protective of her pup, Kuromaru, though it's not too obvious in day-to-day living.
She hates the communal showers--not because they're communal, but because they're showers. You can tell a great deal about a person by their scent, unless they wash that scent off. Among the Inuzuka, it's considered scent-lying to shower more than a few times a week, and it makes them suspicious. Tsume has learned that most people feel otherwise, but she still doesn't LIKE them. (Also, smelly soaps? Make her nose itch.)
Tsume really, really dislikes people who are physically pushy. Don't try and drag her somewhere; she might take your arm off. Don't come onto her and refuse to take no for an answer, because she might take your dick off.
Sexual Orientation: Mostly straight. Unless the other girl is really hot. Or Tsume's been drinking. Or it's for a mission. Or a dare. Or because someone said she couldn't.
But mostly straight.
Gifts/Talents: Tsume has an amazing ability to drink massive quantities of alcohol. Hey, that is TOTALLY a talent.
Flaws: Tsume can be very stubborn. Those who don't know her--or just don't like her--would tell you she's tactless and abrasive, and they'd be right. She's lousy at strategy and planning. She trusts people with her life, but not her emotions. That includes the other Inuzuka.
Religion and Philosophy: Inuzuka. In addition to being Shinto/Buddhist (at least some of them) they have their own clan myths. Tsume would say she believes only what she can see, but she'd be wrong.
Likes and Loves: Good friends, good company, good times. Her furry companion, napping off exhaustion in the sun, getting said exhaustion...
Dislikes and Hates: Friends going crazy or dying, someone trying to teach her something, people who take themselves too seriously.
Fears: Losing a limb. Even more than dying, she fears losing a limb. I mean, heck, if you're dead you're dead, but if you lose a limb you have to keep going. Losing her familiar. She's seen what happens, and would rather die.
She has other fears, minor fears, but only one other big one. And it's a doozy. She's afraid that someday, someone will learn that Hana's father was not a Konoha nin.
Dreams and Ambitions: Other than enjoying each day as it comes--she doesn't have any dreams or ambitions. Inuzuka have never been good at looking to the future. It's one a' those Traits. Tsume, in particular, tries not to look into the future; she has no idea what it might hold, and it scares her just a bit.
Relationships
Family: Tsume has a mother, Mai, who's mostly catatonic now. She has two sisters, Tanaka and Tori. (Tanaka is 15 years older, Tori 10. Tori's familiar is a bitch, about 50 pounds--mostly leg--named Kiiromaru, who has blue eyes. There was a brother in there, between Tori and Tsume, deceased. He was 7 years Tsume's elder, and died at 12 on a genin mission. Tsume was 5.) (Her mother had a thing for T names.) Tori is married to Zinan, and they have a son, Taro. (Yes, the T's continued.) Yasuo is Kiba's father, and they get along decently well. Yasuo's familiar is Aomaru. Tsume has LOTS of other family, but these are the ones who share her house and raise her children. Cousin, Touga.
Friends: Tsume has never met a person who was not a friend. That said, she doesn't have any real friends.
Lovers: For as much as she cultivates a reputation for being a party girl, she really doesn't sleep around. She sure as hell doesn't have lovers in the emotionally-committed sense. Kiba's father was an arrangement, and she likes it that way.
Hero: Tsume has had several heroes as she's grown; currently, the only people to really occupy that spot are the current and former Hokages. She respects all sorts of people; she isn't prone to thinking of any of them as heroes.
Enemies: Enemies implies it's a mutual thing: if anyone hates her that much, she'd probably just laugh at them for it.
Personal History:
It never occurred to Tsume, as a child, that she might NOT end up being a shinobi. Her parents were shinobi. Her uncles were shinobi. All fifteen cousins were shinobi. Heck, she had to become a shinobi just to stop them from beating up on her. (They were almost all male.) Besides, the Inuzuka believe that you do what you're good at--and desk jobs aren't it. Tsume always knew she'd be a ninja. In point of fact, 5% of all Inuzuka are natural-born alphas (leaders, pushy, stubborn--think dog leaders, not human leaders.) This is down from the 10% of all PEOPLE who are natural-born leaders, and for good reason: alphas tend to butt heads a lot. The clan would tear itself apart with too many of them. Tsume, however, is an alpha: being a ninja was really her only option.
Ninja life suited Tsume just fine; tribal tattoos meant she didn't have to learn the sleuth of undercover work, and could concentrate on murder and mayhem--just what she was good at.
At 17, when she was finally maturing into the bond with her dog, Kuromaru, and they were getting really good at what they did, her mission went very, very wrong. Kuromaru got her out, at his own sacrifice. She tracked him down, knowing the whole time she shouldn't. She wasn't good at strategy. She was unable to think of a way to get Kuromaru back without getting caught.
So she got caught.
What she didn't expect was to get raped. What her rapist didn't expect was for her to have enough chakra afterward to get back up and bite his balls off. Yes. Bite. He didn't know about the chakra loop, see. So Kuromaru saved her again. She saved him, and he got them both home.
Two weeks later her mother asked her who the father was. It was the first time Tsume realized she was pregnant.
To the Inuzuka, family is important. She couldn't explain it; she couldn't hide the pregnancy, because they could smell it. So she dodged questions, and told them she'd been sleeping around. She wasn't sure who the father was. She continued her missions as long as she could, halfway hoping everything would be all right, halfway hoping something would happen and she'd miscarry. She didn't quite know what else to do. Inuzuka do NOT have abortions. Ninja do, but Inuzuka ninja do so in secrecy, and the secret was out.
She started distancing herself from her friends, afraid they'd catch her in her lie. She tried drinking. It didn't work. She kept doing it, anyway, and pretended like nothing was wrong.
Eventually, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl--three weeks premature, though it hurt Hana none, and on the way back from a mission. Kuromaru carried her most of the way home, and then brought a medic out to where he'd had to leave her. Within weeks she was going stir crazy. It didn't help that every time she so much as looked at Hana, she was afraid someone would find out--somehow. Hana's eyes were dark; not the Inuzuka pale. It made Tsume nervous, even though that happened sometimes.
When her sister volunteered to raise Hana, Tsume leapt at the offer and went back to work, eventually joining ANBU. People chalked up her general nervousness to new-mother jitters, and Tsume gratefully agreed.
Her father died before her two-year stint in ANBU finished; she grieved, and moved forward. When her mother ended up on a very bad mission, her familiar dead, Tsume quit ANBU to stay home and care for her family. She also had another child, with a man she knew and respected, who agreed to help her sister and brother-in-law in caring for her mother and the household. Kiba's birth nearly coincided with the attack of the Kyuubi; Tsume left her three month old baby to try and help protect the village.
The Kyuubi destroyed a good deal of her clan. Most of the alphas were gone, and Tsume began the tedious process of bullying the clan back together.
Eventually, others began to step back in, to offer to help with the running of the Inuzuka. Tsume knew her own weaknesses, and that looking to the future wasn't her strong suit; with the clan on the mend and Kiba safely in the Academy, now it's time to head back to work.
People at home are getting too close for comfort, asking questions and trying to be close again. Hana is ten, and Tsume won't see her killed, hurt, sent away, or ostracized. Not even for the sake of the village.
Right now, ANBU is safer.
Special Notes: I know this is supposed to be ANBU stuff, but real quick, the dog:
Kuromaru stands 38 inches at the shoulder; his back reaches Tsume's waist, his head her mid to upper ribcage. He has a black coat, slowly fading to black and white; while the Inuzuka dogs live a very long time, he's reaching middle aged. Kuromaru can speak, and has quite a few ragged scars.
He loves to have his belly rubbed.
Like all the Inuzuka dogs, Kuromaru is a dog-wolf-something else hybrid. He weighs in at roughly 190 pounds, and is both very protective and incredibly sweet. If he doesn't die in battle, Tsume expects him to live to the ripe old age of forty.
